Sometimes, clients come to me because their original PMU artist is no longer available, or because they’ve moved to a new city. Other times, they’re dissatisfied with the shape, color, or symmetry of their brows, lips, or eyeliner. And sometimes, they simply want a touch-up after a few years to refresh their look.

Whatever the reason, I believe everyone deserves to feel confident and beautiful—no matter where their PMU journey began.

Why Some Salons Say “No” to PMU Corrections

It’s not uncommon for salons to refuse touch-ups or corrections on work done elsewhere. There are a few reasons for this:

• Unpredictable Results: Correcting someone else’s work can be challenging, especially if the original technique, pigment, or placement was not ideal.

When you come in for a touch-up, the basic shape is usually already there. That means I can often skip the time-consuming process of brow mapping and focus on perfecting what you already have. This saves both of us time and allows me to deliver the same high-quality results you’d expect from a full session.

2. It’s About Empathy and Understanding

I’ve met  clients who feel embarrassed or anxious about their faded, uneven, or botched PMU. Some have been turned away by other salons or told they need expensive laser removal before anyone will help them. I want every client to feel welcome, understood, and supported—no matter where their PMU journey began.

At the end of the day, it’s your face and your decision. I always offer my professional opinion and suggestions, but I respect your wishes and work with you to achieve the look you want. The Technical Side: What I Consider Before Accepting a PMU Correction

Of course, not every correction is simple. Before accepting a touch-up or correction, I always consider the following:

1. The Age and Condition of the Existing PMU

If the pigment is very old and faded, it’s usually easier to work with. I can often blend new pigment into the existing shape, making minor adjustments as needed.

2. The Shape and Symmetry

If the original shape is good, I can simply follow the existing lines. If there are symmetry issues (like in my client’s case), I discuss options with the client and decide together on the best approach.

3. The Color and Depth of the Pigment

If the old pigment is too dark, too red, or has changed color over time, it can be more challenging to correct. In some cases, I may recommend a color correction session or, if necessary, laser removal before proceeding.

4. Skin Type and Health

Mature or delicate skin requires a gentler approach. I always take into account the client’s age, skin condition, and any medical history (like strokes or other health issues) before starting a correction.

5. Client Expectations

The most important factor is understanding what the client wants. Some are happy with a simple refresh, while others want a complete transformation. I make sure we’re on the same page before starting any work.

When I Might Say “No”

While I strive to help every client, there are situations where a touch-up or correction isn’t possible or advisable:

• Severely Botched Work: If the original PMU is too dark, placed incorrectly, or deeply scarred, the only safe option may be laser removal before we can start fresh.

• Unrealistic Expectations: If a client expects a dramatic transformation that isn’t possible with a touch-up alone, I will always be honest and explain the limitations.

• Health Concerns: If a client’s skin is too fragile, or if there are medical issues that make PMU unsafe, I may recommend alternative solutions.

In these cases, I always provide honest, compassionate advice and refer clients to trusted professionals if needed.
